Borough Assembly Expected To Make Decision On Vote By Mail This Afternoon

first_imgFacebookTwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享The clock struck midnight, and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly called a recess amid discussions around a proposal for a vote by mail system. The assembly is scheduled to reconvene at noon, on Wednesday, to finish discussion and make a final decision on how residents in the borough will vote in the upcoming elections. Pierce: “We will take that up at noon, today. There is a small, small, percentage of residents that live in this borough that are making some major decisions for us as voters.”  The assembly is set to reconvene on Wednesday at noon. This is a developing story- details will be posted as they are made available. The Kenai Peninsula Borough’s election stakeholder group, which was tasked with making voting easier and more accessible, endorsed a similar hybrid solution in a report last year, calling for a hybrid system with broad use of by-mail voting and limited options for early in-person voting. Soldotna City Manager Stephanie Queen and City Clerk Shellie Saner were active members of the group in 2019.center_img According to the report,“The (vote-by-mail hybrid structure) has proven to be a more efficient and effective process for the administration of elections. In this process every registered voter will be mailed a ballot package 2-3 weeks prior to election day, giving more voters an opportunity to exercise their right to vote at a time and place that meets their schedule and convenience.” Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce: “We adjourned with the vote by mail issue on table being discussed. Mr. Blakeley (Assemblymember Norm Blakeley) was about to make an amendment and that’s were we left off.”last_img read more
