Canadian 15th in World Championship for Seven-Year-Olds

first_imgCanadian Lindsay Pearce, who has been a working student in Devon, England, with Lucy Wiegersma  since January of this year, placed 15th with Saniki in the World Championship CCI2* for Seven-Year-Old Horses in the Mondial du Lion event in France, October 21-24.Saniki, an Irish Sport Horse mare by the KWPN stallion Ekstein (Hickstead’s grandsire) out of Shanaclough Surprise (ISH), finished on her dressage score of 58.90. Saniki is owned by Patricia Pearce, who purchased the mare in September, 2009 from her breeder, John Glynne.“When we first saw her, she would stick her head straight up in the air and leap over the fences, clearing them by a large margin,” said Patricia. “Lucy had her pegged early on as ‘a horse who knows what to do with her arms and legs.’ She has settled in since then and loves to go fast – sometimes not wanting to slow down exactly when asked!”Lindsay previously trained in Virginia with coach Gavin Moylan, and showed her jumper Sunny Days. With David and Karen O’Connor, she trained for cross-country and dressage on her event horses Tangle Top and Rockalong. After a brief rest for Saniki, Lindsay plans to begin training for the Portugal circuit in February. Plans for 2011 also include a CCI***.This is the first time a Canadian has competed in the 25-year history of the Lion event, which was won by Andreas Dibowski of Germany on Mighty Magic with 43.50pp. The Six-Year-Old division was won by Mrs Medicott, ridden by Sara Algotsson-Ostholt of Sweden.
