Andy Frasco & The U.N. Perform “Shine” For Democracy Comes Alive [Watch]

first_imgOn Saturday, October 3rd, Andy Frasco & The U.N. took part in Democracy Comes Alive, a one-day, nonpartisan virtual music festival aimed at channeling the power of music to make a critical impact on civic engagement in this November’s elections and beyond.Frasco and guitarist Shawn Eckels appeared from a home studio for the event for a take on uplifting track “Shine” from their latest record, April 2020’s Keep On Keepin’ On.As Andy noted to welcome viewers, “Thank you for watching Democracy Comes Alive. This is an important time, just as an American citizen. Doesn’t matter who you’re voting for, just make your voice heard so we could feel like we’re not alone in this fight. Go get it. Go f*^kn’…”“Vote your ass off!” Eckels, interjected. In that spirit, Andy Frasco and Shawn Eckels sauntered into a take on Keep On Keepin’ On track “Shine”. Though notably more subdued than their normal, joyfully chaotic live performances, the melding of Eckels’ gravelly howls and Frasco’s earnest delivery helped make this plea to “find a way to shine your light” a genuinely emotional moment amid times of unrest and uncertainty. As Frasco continued toward the end of the song, “The idea that we’re sticking up for ourselves is what’s most important here. The fight for something—for the common good, for the future generations… That’s why we vote.”Revisit Andy Frasco and Shawn Eckels’ performance at Democracy Comes Alive below. My Donegal… with Red Hughs GAA manager Seosamh MacCeallabhuí

first_imgDonegal school teacher Seosamh MacCeallabhuí led Donegal GAA side Red Hughs in October to their first Ulster Junior Championship after an incredible season. Following Red Hughs success over Junior football in the county, MacCeallabhuí guided his side to Ulster JFC success over Derry outfit Limavady Wolfhounds. Now as Gaoth Dobhair aims for All-Ireland Senior success in the new year, Red Hughs will start their Junior All-Ireland semi-final task in January against Sligo-based side Easkey. MacCeallabhuí is also a keen fan of music. My Donegal… with Seosamh MacCeallabhuí (1) Where is your favourite place in Donegal and why?Got to be Baile na Finne with Portnoo a close second (2 ) How do you like to spend Christmas in the county?Susie Maitis Jeaic Maighread and Grandad (in charge of the remote after an enormous dinner)(3) Who is the one person in Donegal that you look up to and why?As time moves on it has to be your parents, my father at this stage. Having family myself, now you understand they always have your back.(4) What do you think is Donegal’s best tourist attraction?Top of Achla on a fine day is a beautiful place as is Sliabh League. But there are so many under-resourced places like Ramelton.(5) Do you prefer Donegal summers or Donegal winters? Good summer’s day anywhere in Donegal is hard to beat. Our snow is too wet and you can’t ski!(6) What would you do on your ideal day out in Donegal?A good football game followed by analysis in the Brewery.(7) What is your favourite Donegal-made product? Susie’s homemade Christmas decorations, so many of them. Yard sale on the January 6!(8) Who is Donegal’s greatest ambassador around the world and why? That has to be Joe Mc Hugh. What he has done for the Irish language alone. He now proudly speaks it as well as anyone. Also, Jim Mc Guinness and Paddy McDevitt, Donegal Boston GAA, Fintown’s greatest export.(9) Who is Donegal’s most successful businessperson in your opinion? As a teacher, you don’t get to hear about all the great business people around but I do feel Mark Doherty in Century Cinemas and Backstage is always expanding and trying new things.(10) Who is your favourite Donegal sportsperson of all time? That has got to be Micheal Murphy not just for his talent but the way he conducts himself on and off the field. Always has time for everyone. A true gentleman and a fine example to all the youth in the country.(11) What is your favourite Donegal restaurant?Susie’s Kitchen or The Backstage if she’s feeling tired. Macs Mace for all things GAA and the Honeypot for Pancakes and Bacon.(12) If you could change one thing about Donegal what would it be?Good snow in the winter, so we might Ski down Achla and Erigal(13) What is your favourite Donegal saying or expression?I travel a bit from time to time and the use of the word “wild” is a real source of amusement.(14) What is the biggest challenge facing the people of Donegal today?A decent health service. We live on the edge of Europe and we are punished for it.(15) What is your favourite Donegal food? My aunt Brid Wright used to scramble an egg in a cup with some other magic that remains a vivid memory for me to this day.(16) Is there anything that really annoys you about Donegal or its people?Complaining about traffic. I travel to Dublin now and again. Now that’s traffic. Hell on earth.(17) Do you have a favourite local band? Now you’ve asked the right question! Having help promote Irish music in Donegal for years we were very privileged to bring the likes of Le Galaxie, Not Squares, The Wonder Villians, Persued by Dogs and Le Boom to Donegal. We were also well represented locally with the likes of Mojo Gogo who threatened to make it big for a while. At this point, I am watching the likes of Waldorf and Cannon, Slow place like home, Slow Skies and of course In Their Thousands, Donegal’s best band for years.Disturbance has been another very positive development in Donegal bringing some great live music to the area. It would be great to see the likes of Persued by Dogs and Le Boom play one of their events.(18) If you had a million euro to improve something in Donegal what would it be?A million euro won’t fix the health service apparently, but I’m sure it would be well spent organising A Glastonbury type event on the shores of Lough Finn with headliners The Foals, Wombats and We are Scientists. Martin Mc Kelvey to curate.(19) Manus Boyle or Michael Murphy?Answered above, nothing against Manus another great ambassador for the game.(20) Is there anything about Donegal that you are very proud of?Our remoteness lonely and proud “Na Bach linn”My Donegal… with Red Hughs GAA manager Seosamh MacCeallabhuí was last modified: January 3rd, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:GAAJim McGuinnessManus BoyleMichael Murphymount errigalMUSICRED HUGHS.Seosamh MacCeallabhuílast_img read more

Tallink Posts Loss due to Vessel Dockings

first_imgzoomImage Courtesy: Tallink Estonian shipping company Tallink Grupp closed the first quarter of this year with a net loss, driven by technical dockings of several of its vessels. The company reported an unaudited net loss of EUR 25.3 million (USD 28.4 million) in Q1 2019, widened from a net loss of EUR 19.6 million in Q1 2019.Total revenue for the first quarter of this year was EUR 178.9 million, which is a 2.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.At the same time, the group’s cargo business continued to increase both in volume and revenue in the first quarter of 2019. The transported cargo volumes increased in total by 2.7%, the cargo revenues increased by 1.5% or EUR 0.4 million and amounted to EUR 29.6 million in the first quarter.During the quarter, Tallink made significant investments into the upgrade of its existing fleet, with EUR 25.3 million invested mainly into the technical dockings of seven vessels. The ships in question are Baltic Queen, Galaxy, Regal Star, Star, Silja Symphony, Victoria I and Isabelle.“The 2019 first quarter financial results reflect, to a large extent, the same picture as the passenger statistics we have already reported for the quarter,” Paavo Nõgene, CEO of AS Tallink Grupp, commented.“There are expected decreases in revenue and profit, which can mainly be attributed to the planned dockings of seven of our group’s vessels in the quarter and also follow the typical cyclical nature of low and high seasons of our business,” he added. As explained, these dockings, although impacting the company’s passenger statistics and financial results when they are carried out, are vital for ensuring that Tallink fleet remains in excellent technical condition.“The challenging period of dockings is now behind us… We are ready and prepared for the next two quarters of our annual high season and our whole team here at Tallink Grupp will work extremely hard to improve the results of the next months and quarters of 2019,” Nõgene concluded.Tallink Grupp provides passenger transport and cargo services in the northernmost area of the Baltic Sea region. The group currently has a fleet of fourteen vessels and provides its services under the brand names of Tallink and Silja Line on seven different routes.Related:Tallink Confirms Shuttle Ferry Newbuild Order2018 a Year of Contrasts for Tallinklast_img read more

Details Details 49ers Tarell Brown Loses 2M For Missed

If there was ever a case of an agent in need of firing, this is it. Tarell Brown, the San Francisco 49ers’ young cornerback, is in the last year of a six-year deal. He was due to earn $2.92 million for this season—$2 million of that for just working out in Santa Clara in the summer.Yet Brown was unaware of the stipulation and his agent, Brian Overstreet, did not make him aware. Because Brown trained in Texas instead, he voided $2 million of the contract.Needless to say, that did not go over so well with Brown, who fired Overstreet quicker than he can run the 40.“I no longer have an agent as of now,” Brown said after practice, according to The Sacramento Bee. “No one wants to leave money on the table. If I would have known the clauses in my contract . . .”Shouldn’t Brown have known what he signed? Sure.Brown said, “That’s what agents get paid to do–to orchestrate the contract and let you know what you can and can’t do as far as workouts and OTAs and things of that sort. That’s what he got paid to do, he didn’t do that, so in my opinion he had to be let go.”Hard to disagree with him on with that. That’s $2 million that cannot be recovered. Brown’s last two seasons have been solid, making him a candidate to be re-signed by the Niners or a viable free agent option for many teams.Rest assured, Brown will be apprised of all the incentives and clauses in any future contract. So unfortunate that he had to learn a $2 million lesson. read more
