If an academy player can have good quality, he can come and compete with his team-mates.“I’m happy about the work, about the game of Hamza. He needs to continue this way.“It’s a good response for the team and for the work at the club, not just the professional players but at the academy. It’s a reward for all of the coaches and for all the hard work in the academy.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

22 days agoKlopp: RB Salzburg taught Liverpool players valuable lesson

first_imgKlopp: RB Salzburg taught Liverpool players valuable lessonby Paul Vegas22 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveJurgen Klopp says Liverpool earned an important lesson against RB Salzburg on Wednesday. The Reds were cruising in the first-half after Sadio Mane made it 3-0.But a defensive capitulation meant the scores were tied with 30 minutes remaining, only for Mohamed Salah to save the day with the winning goal.Klopp said: “The first 30 minutes was some of the best football we played so far, I would say, against a very good organised team with a clear identity. We did everything that they don’t like on high speed, scored the three goals, could have scored more.”They changed the system – that’s allowed and not really a problem usually but tonight it was for us. We changed, for some reason, the approach. Some were in a controlling mood, some were in an attacking mood, and other positions were too hectic.”The other problem was that we tried to finish our situations off through the middle of the park. They had one midfielder less in the defence because they took a little bit more risk, left a No.10 between the lines, and we still tried to push through the centre.”[We] lost the balls there, they passed the ball to the 10 and he could turn at the back of Fabinho: counter-attack. That changed the momentum of the game.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Neville calls for ‘superhuman effort’

first_imgPhil Neville knows it will take his England team playing at their best if they are to challenge in the Women’s World Cup, and has called in his team to put forth a superhuman effort in France. England open their campaign on Sunday against Scotland who they beat 6-0 in the 2017 European Championships, but their manager knows it won’t be so easy to beat them again. Recent setbacks in games with Canada and New Zealand have increased the scrutiny on the much-fancied Lionesses, but Neville thinks those defeats show how hard England must work if they are to triumph this summer.  Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? “For us to win it, we’ve got to be at our best and more,” Neville told a press conference. “That I’m certain of. We’ll have to do a superhuman effort. The players know that. We’re in it to win it. We’ve had defeats to Canada and New Zealand in the last few months and I think what those defeats told us was that we cannot drop below our best or we will pay the price.” Competition in this tournament will be stiffer than ever before. England are one of six teams U.S.A. legend Julie Foudy believes can lift the trophy. Perennial favourites and holders, the U.S. are joined by France, Japan, Germany and Australia in that bracket according to Foudy, but Neville believes his team have nothing to fear, while acknowledging that America has paved the way. “A lot of team have caught the USA up,” the former Manchester United player continued. “They were the outstanding team but what happens to outstanding teams is people study them. “The fact that Lucy Bronze plays in France for Lyon means she has no fear about playing against the best players. “My England players who play in America have no fear about playing American girls. They know they’re only human.” Neville preaches bravery to his team and insists that he won’t berate them for making mistakes. “I only criticise my players if they don’t try and make that pass, if they take the safe option. “For the last 16 months we’ve told them about risk-taking, gambling in the final third, being brave.”last_img read more

Urban Meyer Shares Bizarre Story About Saturday’s TCU Game

(Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images)Last Saturday was Ohio State’s third and final game without Urban Meyer on the sideline. Meyer’s suspension is over, and he’ll be back for this weekend’s game against Tulane.Ryan Day did a fine job for the Buckeyes as interim head coach, helping guide the team to a 3-0 start, including a win over a TCU team that was ranked 15th in the country. Day handled himself well, and will probably draw some head coaching consideration down the road because of this. However, he did have one mishap it seems, and a funny one at that. Meyer shared the back story with the media today.Apparently, when TCU tried to run a trick play on a kickoff by having a player lie on the turf to disguise himself, Day misinterpreted what was going on .According to Meyer, he thought someone got shot in the end zone and panicked.Meyer said the TCU player who lay on the turf to disguise himself for the lateral on the kickoff caught Ryan Day’s attention. Day, Meyer said, thought someone had been shot in the end zone and was yelling frantically on his headset.— Bill Rabinowitz (@brdispatch) September 20, 2018This seems hard to believe, but Meyer was serious. We’re guessing that everyone had a good laugh about this after the game.Day will go back to his usual duties as offensive coordinator with Meyer back in the fold. He’ll try to keep the Buckeyes offense rolling like it has been through three weeks.Ohio State will play Tulane at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on BTN.last_img read more

(Photo by Doug Benc/Getty Images)Florida State head coach Willie Taggart was not happy with several of his Seminoles players during today’s blowout loss to Clemson.FSU, which has had an extremely disappointing 2018, was blown out by the No. 2 Tigers, losing 59-10 at Doak Campbell Stadium. It was the worst loss in the history of the stadium.Taggart said after the game that some of his players “quit” on their team during the game. The Seminoles’ first-year head coach had a strong message for those players while speaking to reporters:“That can’t be tolerated,” Taggart said in his postgame comments. “One thing you can’t do, you can’t quit. You quit, you don’t play. So we’ve got to do a great job of making sure we’ve got the right guys. Didn’t play well at all. That’s on me and our coaches and our players and everybody that’s here, and we’ve got to find a way to get that right.”***“I think mentally we’re a weak football team and we’re not mentally strong yet, and that’s part of the culture to changing it to what you want,” Taggart said. “We’re going to find the guys that quit, and we’re going to find the guys that kept playing and make sure that we keep those guys in there. So there will be some changes come next week.”Things don’t get much easier for Florida State moving forward. The Seminoles are set to play at N.C. State next weekend.last_img read more
